Aldershot Town will be raring to start the 2008/09 season after their 16 year absence from the Football League. Spirits are high in the dressing room and many leading pundits are predicting that we will finish in a safe mid-table position.

One man Aldershot fans will be hoping can retain his form from last season is Goalkeeper Nikki Bull.

Bull had a phenomenal 2007/08 season, and was no doubt a key man in our League success.

He won numerous awards at the end of last season, including;
Non – League Goalkeeper of the year
Non – League Player of the year
Blue Square ‘Goalkeeper of the year`
Save of the Year ( this being awarded for his acrobatic save in the dying minutes of the 1-1 draw against Exeter City, a result which secured the Blue Square League Title.)
He also won a place in the Blue Square Premier ‘Team Of The Year`

His fine form also won him a new 2 year contract with the shots, a huge surprise to everyone associated with the club, as it was expected he would leave to play at a higher level.

Our first game back in the Football League is away at Accrington Stanley on Saturday, and one man in particular is hoping to get off to a flying start. John Grant, who turns 27 on Saturday, had a prolific goal-scoring record last season, netting 25 goals in 37 starts for the club.

When questioned about how he thinks he will do in League 2 next season, he responded in a positive manner, saying;

“Of course I am looking forward to the match. But I don`t feel that I have a point to prove because I was never given the opportunity at the clubs that I played for in the football league. I only seemed to get one game here and one game there. If I had managed to have been given a run of matches on the bounce I feel that I would have proved myself then. I cannot wait until Saturday”

Next season will be a huge challenge for us, but I feel that with one or two more quality signings, there is no reason why we shouldn`t push for a Playoff spot.
