Defender Ben Herd says Aldershot Town’s players have to accept full responsibility for the 2-0 FA Cup second round loss at Dover Athletic.

A brace from Dover striker Adam Burchill eliminated a lacklustre Shots from the competition.

In the wake of the disappointing defeat to the Blue Square Bet South side, 25-year-old Herd said he and his team-mates let everyone connected with the club down.

‘We showed no spirit, no fight, no heart,’ said Herd.

‘To be out fought is nothing short of a disgrace and I can only apologise to everyone.

‘People will get on at the manager (Kevin Dillon), but people should aim the abuse at us. It’s our fault.

‘We’ve got to take the flak for the manager and the coaching staff. We have to look in the mirror.’

Herd added: ‘I feel sorry for everyone involved with the club because we’ve let them down.’
