Following Aldershot’s 2-1 at Blundell Park, boss Gary Waddock spoke of his delight with the result.

He told www.theshots.co.uk ‘We are highly delighted with the victory. We said before the game to the players that we should have got something here last season. We showed in our game today both sides of our game. We were professional and we got the result that we thoroughly deserved.

‘Scott Donnelly’s goals were well taken and we had chances in the first half to have taken the game out of their reach. It was an excellent team performance. We defended excellently and the pleasing aspect is that the work we are doing on the training ground is paying dividends. We know where our downfall was last season in conceding too many goals and we have tried to address that.

‘We are a decent footballing side and can pass but that is not good enough alone and we are now showing that we can dig in to get the result and we did that today and must continue to do so too. We needed to put the away results to bed- not the performances- and I hope we have done that today.’
