A host of missed gilt edged chances – Dodds, Lawrie and Taylor the most guilty – cost Vale what would have been a deserved victory, although they have teenage Keeper Chris Martin to thank for a last gasp save.

Vale dominated the first half with Dave Brammer pulling the strings in midfield, however were unable to make the break through, mainly due to some good work from Aldershot Keeper Nikki Bull who made a string of fine saves.
