It has been confirmed that Nikki Bull is to leave Aldershot Town after making 313 appearances for the club.

The news was announced via the club’s SMS service at around 8pm tonight (Sunday). It’s still unclear where he’s going, or if any fee was involved. It would appear, however, when reading between the lines of a statement released by the chairman that Bully’s contract has been mutually terminated and no other club is involved.

Perhaps this was a move that reflects the financial situation at the club at present, with Bull being thought to be the highest earner at the club. It’s also unclear as to who his replacement will be, but it looks most likely at the moment that Mikael Jaimez-Ruiz will be first choice goalkeeper next season.

Every summer there are rumours of Nikki Bull leaving, but these rumours intensified after he had not appeared in the first three pre-season friendlies, despite being spotted at the ground. There was a rumour that he’d been trialing with League One outfit Yeovil Town and other suggestions that he might go back to part time football to accomodate his family life, which then made Terry Brown’s AFC Wimbledon the favourites to be his next club.

Whatever the future holds, Nikki Bull will always be highly regarded at Aldershot Town. After arriving in the summer of 2002 and making his debut against Hitchin Town in the Ryman Premier, he went on to make 313 appearances over a 7 year spell, which puts him second behind Jason Chewins in the all-time appearance records and also made a club record 175 consecutive appearances. He also won two promotions, played for the England national XI and was voted player of the year a club record 3 times. He is also the only Aldershot Town goalkeeper to ever score a goal, after he converted a penalty at home to Hendon in 2003.

We wish you all the best Nikki, a true Aldershot Town legend.
