Aldershot Town have finally made their first signing of the summer, with the capture of goalkeeper Clark Masters from Southend United.

Just four days since Nikki Bull’s departure, Garry Waddock has bought in Clark Masters from Southend on a one-year deal.

Masters began his career with Brentford before being loaned to Slough Town for the 2005/06 season. He finally made his debut for Brentford on the opening day of the 2006/07 season against Blackpool. He went on to make 13 appearances for the Bees before going on loan to AFC Wimbledon.

He played twice for Brentford in 2007/08 before going out on loan again, this time to Welling United.

He left the west London club in January 2008 and joined Southend United on a free, but was sent out on loan again, this time to Stevenage Borough.

He had a second loan spell at Welling before a trial at Grimsby Town, but never made a first team appearance for Southend.

Gary Waddock told ‘I am delighted to have signed Clark. His is a goalkeeper with great ability and to add him to the group is a positive move for the club. I was aware of what he is capable of when he was at Brentford as a youngster, where he broke into the first team as a teenager.’

It remains to be seen if Clark will be first choice or if Ruiz, who put in an assured performance against Spurs last night, will continue in goal. Whatever happens, it’s nice to finally see the squad being added to and Shots fans will be hoping that there are more to come.
