Aldershot’s seven match unbeaten run came to an end at Sincil Bank on Saturday, as a late Sergio Torres goal gave the Imps victory in Chris Sutton’s first match in charge.

Two changes were made from the Shots side that drew at Torquay in the week. Adam Hinshelwood came in at centre back in place of Anthony Charles and Dean Parrett was back in the midfield, as Chris Blackburn dropped to the bench.

The first half was quiet, with the home side enjoying a lot of posession. However, the Shots looked dangerous on the break and should have taken the lead on 19 minutes, but after a sequence of missed chances, Morgan finally struck the ball into the ground and wide of the target from close range.

Lincoln certainly came into the game a lot more in the second half. Richard Butcher could have put the home side in front 10 minutes after the restart, but his effort was well saved by Ruiz.

Ruiz was the hero again, tipping a fierce 30 yard drive from Oakes over the bar.

The Imps finally made the breakthrough with 7 minutes left, as Sergio Torres broke clear, rounded the keeper and fired home.

The Shots almost responded immediately, but Morgan fired over from close range.

Aldershot piled on the pressure late on, but to no avail. As the referee blew the whistle and the Shots’ 7 match unbeaten run came to an end. Lincoln rejoiced as they ended their run of four straight defeats to give Chris Sutton the perfect start as a manager.
