Gary Waddock seemed satisfied with his team’s performance after losing 1-0 at home to Fulham XI on Friday evening.

Speaking to, Waddock said ‘Yeah I was pleased. I thought it was a good performance against good opposition again. They had some good players on show. We didn’t get our rewards in terms of a goal but we came close (through John Halls hitting the post). I was pleased with the overall performance.’

He then spoke about new signings Ben Herd and Clark Masters and sounds pleased ‘With Ben, I’ve been looking for a right back for some time. I think we’ve found one of real good quality, and he’ll give us that right back that we need. Clark – it’s a different situation with the Bully situation. He wanted first team football and he’s going to fight it out with Mikhael for the number one jersey.

The new season is just 18 days away and Waddock tells us the importance of getting the players fit for the season’s opener against Darlington ‘We just want to make sure that come the first league game that everyone’s prepared, that everyone’s 100% fit and ready for the league campaign. Pre-season friendlies are all about fitness.’

He was then asked about the captaincy for the new season ‘I’ve spoken to one or two of the players regarding that and I haven’t made my mind up yet – everything to play for. There’s a few players in there with a shout but who knows!’

Aldershot’s pre-season preperations continue on Tuesday night with a short trip to Conference South side Woking.
