Aldershot suffered a second defeat in five days on Wednesday night as a strong Shots line up went down 3-1 away to neighbours Farnborough.

It was the home side who started the brightest and had their first chances within the first ten minutes, as Dean McDonald struck wide from just inside the area after Anthony Thomas let a good chance go to waste just moments earlier.

It took nearly 20 minutes for the Football League side to mount an attack when a Scott Donnelly free kick was deflected into the arms of ex-Shot Richard Barnard in the Boro goal.

Farnborough were lucky not to be reduced to 10 men after Jean Sylvan Dossou caught Lewis Chalmers with a two footed challenged. The referee gave the Frenchman a long talking to, but he escaped without punishment.

Despite being on the back foot, a good touch from John Grant split the Boro defence and allowed Kirk Hudson to break through, but Barnard was quick out of his goal to deny a goal scoring opportunity.

Half time: Farnborough 0-0 Shots.

Gary Waddock made three changes to the side at the start of the second half as Marvin Morgan, Andy Sandell and ex-Brentford defender John Halls entered the fray.

Depsite these changes it was the home side that continued to press forward, but it was The Shots who took an undeserved lead in the 49th minute. Danny Hylton struck from 20 yards out and his shot was deflected up and over substitute goalkeeper Steve Williams.

It took the home side under a minute to equalise though. Dean McDonald`s shot was parried by Ruiz, but Scott Laidler was able to head in the rebound from close range. Farnborough could have taken the lead just three minutes later, but had a goal ruled out for an infringement.

Dave Winfield should have restored The Shots` lead just after the hour mark, but he couldn`t keep his header down from close range.

Farnborough took a deserved lead in the 76th minute when substitute Bradley Bubb fired home from six yards out.

Substitute Marvin Morgan could have put Aldershot back on level terms almost immediately, but after rounding the keeper his shot was blocked on the line.

The game was made safe with just 8 minutes remaining. Dean McDonald was un-marked and headed home from six yards out to give Farnborough another impressive result in the build up to their Southern Premier League campaign. For Aldershot, it was another disappointment.
