Speaking to theshots.co.uk Aldershot boss Gary Waddock seemed upbeat, despite seeing his side knocked out of the League Cup at the first hurdle.

‘We gave a good account of ourselves against a good team in a league above us. With regard to the penalties I will have to look at the DVD but from where I was there were a couple of penalties for sure but I thought there were a couple of penalties our way but we only got one of them.

‘We started positively and we created early on when Scott Donnelly had an opportunity within the first couple of minutes. It could have been different but we didn’t come and freeze. We didn’t shy away from things and got on the ball against a Bristol Rovers team that have had success in recent years. They have some good players and we took the game to them at a difficult venue and looked solid.

‘Overall I was pleased with the performance but obviously not pleased with the result but we move on.’
