Just three days after picking up a well earned point at Notts County, Aldershot are back in action at the Recreation Ground as they take on Northampton Town, with new manager Kevin Dillon looking for his first win in charge.

Following Saturday’s stalemate, Aldershot have now kept four consecutive clean sheets and are unbeaten in that time, but are without a win in the league in their last five league matches.

Northampton have had a tough start to life in the fourth tier, following relegation last season. Following Saturday’s 2-2 draw against Crewe, the Cobblers are 16th in the table – 7 points off the play offs.

Captain Adam Hinshelwood is a doubt as his injuries persist and Dean Howell is also out. Apart from that Dillon will have a near-enough fully fit squad to choose from.

As for the visitors, striker Adebayo Akinfenwa is struggling and John Johnson is also a doubt. Dean Beckwith, Abdul Osman and Courtney Herbet are all expected to be out also. However, Liam Davis could return for the Cobblers.

This will be the first time the teams have met since the Shots re-formed in 1992, but the old club met Northampton on no less than 79 occasions between 1929 and 1991. Over the years Northampton shaded it, winning 33 to Aldershot’s 25 – 21 of the meetings were draws. The last meeting in January 1991 resulted in a 2-1 win for the Cobblers at Sixfields.
