Aldershot bounced back from last week’s defeat at Lincoln with a convincing win over Morecambe, as goals from Morgan, Hudson, Soares and an own goal from the Shrimps’ Craig Stanley secured a second consecutive 4-1 win at the Rec.

Loan signing Antonio German made his league debut, Marvin Morgan returned from suspension and Dave Winfield came into the side to replace Chris Blackburn. Dean Parrett was still away on international duty.

It took just fourteen minutes for the deadlock to be broken when Donnelly threaded the ball through to Morgan who calmly slotted the ball home to give the Shots the lead.

Morecambe had chances to get back into the game, as Ruiz produced a fine one-handed save to deny Mullen from 20 yards.

Mullen had another oppurtunity when he got in behind the Shots defence, but he fired over from 6 yards.

The visitors had responded well to going behind, but couldn’t make the breakthrough and went in a goal down at the break.

Morecambe were made to pay for their missed chances within a minute of the second half kicking off. Morgan went down the right wing and delivered a cross which was turned into his own goal by Craig Stanley as Aldershot took control.

The third goal was a gift, after a mix up betweeen defender and goalie allowed Kirk Hudson to slot the ball into an empty net and make the game safe with just over twenty minutes to play.

With ten minutes to play Soares added a fourth. Hylton’s defence splitting pass came into the path of the right winger, who fired home off the inside of the post.

Substitutes Bobby Hopkinson and Danny Hylton both had chances to extend the lead further, before Mullen denied Ruiz his first clean sheet of the season with a consolation goal for the visitors in stoppage time.

It was too little too late for the Shrimps, as Aldershot continued their fine home form and moved up to 5th place in the table.
