Aldershot moved up to fourth in the table after goals from Winfield, Charles, Morgan and Donnelly secured a convincing 4-1 win over Cheltenham at the Rec.

John Halls was missing for the first time all season as Lewis Chalmers came in for his first start since mid-August. Dean Parrett started after picking up a knock at Crewe last week and Ben Herd was on the bench after recovering from an injury picked up on the opening day.

The Shots started the game brightly and had the ball in the net after 26 minutes, but the offside flag ruled out Hudson’s effort.

Eight minutes later Aldershot did break the deadlock when Dave Winfield rose highest to head home Parrett’s corner to give the Shots a deserved lead.

Aldershot were well in control and had further chances to extend the lead before the break, but the score was 1-0 at half time.

Louis Soares came close to doubling the Shots’ advantage early in the second half, but his effort was tipped on to the cross bar by Robins’ keeper Scott Brown.

On 64 minutes Cheltenham were level. Substitute Barry Hayles was fouled on the edge of the box by Straker and Justin Richards made no mistake from 12 yards.

It was harsh on Aldershot, but the visitors were level for just five minutes. A free kick in the centre circle was headed by Anthony Charles, but his effort hit the post and fell back to the defender who smashed home the rebound.

Five minutes later, the win was made safe. Morgan was played in by Soares and the striker rounded the keeper to notch his fifth goal of the season.

Aldershot got their fourth in spectacular fashion in stoppage time, as Scott Donnelly unleased a 45 yard shot that left the Cheltenham keeper stranded to round off a fine afternoon for the home side.
