First half goals from Louis Soares and Scott Donnelly booked Aldershot’s place in the 2nd round of the FA Cup at the expense of Bury, as Jason Dodd’s short time in charge ended on a high.

Marvin Morgan was back in the side, replacing John Grant and Ben Harding came on as a substitute after being out for two months.

After a slow start, the Shots were starting to settle when they took the lead after 13 minutes. Hudson beat his man down the right wing, before laying the ball into the path of Soares who made no mistake from 8 yards out.

Aldershot were in control, but unlike the last meeting between the sides three weeks ago, this time the home side were able to double their advantage on 33 minutes. Scott Donnelly picked up the ball in the Bury half, beat several players before finishing from 8 yards out.

Aldershot held out until half time with a well deserved 2-0 lead.

Bury posed more of a threat second half, enjoying a lot of possession but failing to make it count with any clear cut chances.

Efe Sodje was lucky to stay on the pitch after a string of fouls, including bringing John Grant down when he was through on goal.

Aldershot held on to claim a much needed win and all eyes will now be on tomorrow’s 2nd Round draw.
