A second half header from Anthony Charles gave Aldershot their third league win in a row and moved up to 6th in the table, ahead of the Spirites who dropped to 7th.

Kevin Dillon named an unchanged starting line up, as expected.

Chesterfield were the better side in the first half and went close early on, but Ian Morris was denied by Ruiz in the Aldershot goal.

Lewis Chalmers was booked for dissent and was substituted on 28 minutes by the manager. John Halls was his replacement.

Ben Herd delivered a fantastic cross, but Anthony Straker couldn’t convert from close range.

Chesterfield had the first chance of the second half but Wade Small couldn’t direct his effort on target.

The decisive goal was scored on 68 minutes, when Donnelly’s corner was met by the head of Anthony Charles as the defender scored for the second game in a row.

With five minutes left, David Perkins timed his run perfectly and was one-on-one with Ruiz. His effort beat the Shots’ keeper but rebounded back off the inside of the post.

The visitors were on top late on in the game, with Ruiz having to be at his best to keep the Shots in it. They did get the ball in the net, but it was ruled out for an infringement.

The Shots hung on to claim a third straight win in the league and remain unbeaten in 8 games.
